This JavaScript calculator is not intended to take the place of a thoughtfully compiled and planned budget - it is presented solely for your convenience. As an added benefit, with newer browsers (Netscape & IE 3.0 or above) you should be able to print the results.

Gross Income - the amount that you are paid each month. You can also divide your annual salary by 12 and use that figure.

Payroll Deductions
Taxes (Federal, State, etc.) - multiply your tax rate by your gross income, and then insert that amount here or read it directly off your last pay stub. Remember, that if you are paid biweekly, you must double the amount that you paid in tax.
Savings Plan (401k, 403b, credit union) - how much of each paycheck is saved automatically
Other deductions (medical, dental, life insurance plan, etc.)

Personal Savings (pay yourself first)
Housing (rent or mortgage)
Utilities - these include electricity, gas, water, and phones
Home Maintenance (laundry, toiletries, upkeep)- this is usually 3% of your housing cost.
Transportation - insert your monthly car or lease payment in this box. If you use public transportation, enter that amount here.
Auto Upkeep (gas, insurance, license, oil changes, etc.)
Food (groceries + dining out)
Clothes
Entertainment (Movies, Books, Concerts,TV Cable, Online Services, etc.)
Child Care
Other Loans (ie. credit card or school loans)
Other Miscellaneous Expenses
Total Expenses
Net Income minus all expenses
