4 money saving tips and tricks

You want to save for your future - maybe for an emergency, education, or your retirement. Saving that money, improving your financial life, and building wealth all starts when you set a goal and make a plan to reach that goal.

But once you’ve set that savings goal, how do you start to build your savings? For many, it means cutting back on their spending, and stashing that money into savings instead. These four clever tricks will help change your spending habits to grow your savings.

1. Save automatically

Setting up automatic savings is the easiest and most effective way to save, and it puts extra cash out of sight and out of mind.

There are a few different ways to save automatically:

2. Wait 24 hours before buying non-essential items

Wait at least 24 hours from the time you first see a product you want until you purchase it. You’ll be surprised at how many things you end up not purchasing after the initial impulse wears off. Online carts are a helpful way to save the items you’re considering. So the next time you see a great deal on Amazon, add it to your wish list and sleep on it.

3. Cover your card

This trick comes to us from our partners at Florida Saves, who hand out this great debit and credit card cover that asks, “Do I need this?”

No card cover? No problem, cover your credit card with masking tape or washi tape with a motivational reminder.

4. Unsubscribe from mailing lists

The reason you get so many marketing email is because it works. Remove the temptation of sales, limited time offers, and coupon codes by unsubscribing from marketing lists.

Take it a step further and put yourself on an Internet diet. Cut out shopping websites, blogs, listservs, and groups that encourage you to spend.
