Did you know that the Carnegie Mellon University CyLab found that 4,311 or 10.2% of the children in their report had someone else using their Social Security number? Identity theft continues to be a major issue and can affect both the young and the old. Do you know what to do if you think your identity has been stolen? Last week, the Consumer Federation of America launched a new resource, IdTheftInfo.org, to help consumers and business with this very issue.
Information for Consumers
It is best to learn about Identity theft before it happens. The Consumer Resources section on IdTheftInfo.org contains general information, information for children, shows you how to safely dispose of personal information, and tests how prepared you are to thwart identity theft.
The Victim Resources section contains resources to help those affected by identity theft. From free counseling and advice to checklists, you can find everything you need to restore your identity.
The new website also offers information on how to shop for ID Theft Services.

And finally, the website includes a wealth of resources for businesses – including best practices for identity theft services, privacy best practices, and a business owner background check guide.
