You’ve already set your budget and savings goals for September and have been keeping track of how much you have spent – now what? Now it’s time take another good hard look at your monthly spending. If you didn’t start the 30 day challenge with us at the beginning of September, it’s not too late to join. This week is a crucial week to check in on your finances. You might find yourself in a position where you are right on track with your spending. You may even be able to put more into savings or towards your goals than you thought.
But if you’re anything like me, this is the week you need to figure out how much money you have left to spend – and it may be less than you thought you would have.
Tightening your budget for the last week
One way to help you stay within your budget for the last week of the challenge is to move to a cash system. Figure out how much money you can spend and still reach your goals. Don’t forget to account for any bills that you still need to pay and put that money aside. If you know you only have $100 left for September, take it out in cash and try to make it last. This may mean that you need to eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch everyday – but you can definitely do it!
Reassess your budget
If you are over your budget already, try not to be too hard on yourself. This is a great time to go through your finances to see where you spent more money than you thought you would. Maybe you had an unexpected emergency. Maybe you spent too much money on food. We have lots of tips to help you find money to save.
