It’s National Save for Retirement Week! The event, put together by NAGDCA, is an opportunity to promote the benefits of saving for retirement and to take full advantage of employer-sponsored retirement plans.
Here are three ways to take advantage and ensure you have enough money for a comfortable standard of living when you stop or reduce the amount of hours you work.
1. Learn About Opportunities to Save at Your Workplace
Saving automatically for retirement at work is a great place to start saving money.
If your company matches contributions, and you can afford to take advantage of the full match, do so. Life doesn’t offer many opportunities to get a guaranteed 100 percent return on your investment, but this is one of them. Learn more in this PowerPoint Presentation.
Already investing in your retirement? Consider increasing the amount you save by 1%.
2. Save for Retirement Outside of Work
Even if your employer doesn’t offer a retirement plan, you can still save for retirement, and get some tax benefits in the process, by putting money in an Individual Retirement Account (IRA). Learn more.
3. Sign Up for Savings Text Messages
Interested in receiving helpful tips and reminders about saving for retirement? America Saves launched a new, free text message service, as part of Financial Literacy Month, to keep you motivated to save. Text messages come in the form of tips to help you find money to save and reminders to save for your specific goal.
And if that isn't enough, we are giving away $50 to help you reach your savings goal. But hurry, contest ends October 31, 2013.
