ASW2015 Savings Focus: Paying off High-Interest Debt

America Saves Week has successfully launched and nearly 1,700 organizations across the nation have come together to promote and celebrate good savings habits.

Yesterday, America Saves, partners, friends, and savers took a holistic approach to savings; discussing ways to get to know your full financial picture, using the Assess Your Savings tool to help determine the state of your current savings, and focusing on the importance of setting a goal and a plan.

Today’s Savings Focus will zoom in on paying off debt, particularly high-interest debt. With planning, discipline, patience, and maybe some outside help, almost anyone can reduce their debts and start to accumulate wealth. Find places to cut your spending so that you can pay down your debts faster and find places to trim your expenses.

America Saves is excited to be a special guest in today’s #CKchat with Credit Karma, where we’ll be discussing how savers like you can balance saving while paying off debt. Be sure to follow @AmericaSaves and @CreditKarma on Twitter, and join us this afternoon at 2:00 pm PST/ 5:00 pm EST using the hashtag #CKchat.

That all changed when Sharon attended the Great Lakes Michigan Saves Pay Yourself First Saver’s Summit during America Saves Week.

Written by Guest Blogger | January 13, 2016

You will not believe what it took to completely change my life. About three years ago, the HR Administrator of the corporation where I worked (as a temp with no benefits) forwarded an email to me. Fifteen seconds. One small act of kindness. That's it - that's all it took!
