Cooperative Extension Celebrates 100 Years of Success!

The Cooperative Extension system is celebrating 100 years of hard work and success, bringing information, resources, and assistance to communities.  America Saves has enjoyed a long standing and committed partnership with Cooperative Extension offices to help families manage their finances. Combining the education provided by Extension with the Pledge to Save, together we’ve reached countless individuals, encouraging them to take financial action and save more successfully.

Not only do the Extension offices promote saving in their every day efforts but many have gone above and beyond and are coordinating local America Saves Campaigns. Over 20 of our 64 local America Saves campaigns are coordinated through Extension. These dedicated individuals work with community partners to encourage saving in every aspect of their work. Additionally, over 100 Extension offices participated in America Saves Week 2014, encouraging their communities to set a goal, make a plan, and save automatically.

To celebrate 100 years of service, Cooperative Extension is asking for stories about What Extension Means to Me.  To America Saves, Extension means having committed partners around the country dedicated to increasing the financial capability of their communities. It means more people getting out of debt and saving more successfully. It means knowing the positive impact Extension creates will help the future of so many.

Happy Centennial, Cooperative Extension!  Thank you for your continued support and your dedication to promote financial action in your communities.

About Cooperative Extension

Cooperative Extension is a program of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, an agency of the US Department of Agriculture.  It was founded by the Smith-Lever Act of 1914, expanding the partnership between USDA and land grant universities. Originally created to bring agricultural research and education to rural areas throughout the country, today Extension agents provide “useful, practical, and research-based information to agricultural producers, small business owners, youth, consumers, and others in rural areas and communities of all sizes.” Learn more at www.USDA.gov
