Washington, D.C. — America Saves, an initiative of Consumer Federation of America, will host a virtual livestream today at 4 p.m. ET to celebrate the impact and pivotal role that it has played in empowering Americans to successfully save over the past two decades.

Hosted by recently announced America Saves Co-Directors, Amelia O’Rourke-Owens and Kia McCallister-Young, the virtual celebration will look back on the nonprofit’s history and milestones, highlight current projects and share the organization’s vision for the next 20 years as it continues to help individuals, families, employees, youth and the military community save money, reduce debt, and build wealth. Speakers from Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, the FDIC, Economic Awareness Council and the NCUA, among others, will also join the America Saves team to discuss the impact that the organization and its partners have had over the years. That impact includes helping millions of Americans deposit over $1.3 billion, convincing financial institutions to open no-fee savings accounts, and building a coalition of more than 12,500 organizations to join its mission in building a culture of saving across the nation.

“America Saves is a leading voice and trusted resource to both individuals who want support on their savings journey and organizations committed to helping the people they serve,” said McCallister-Young. “That’s solely because of our unique and innovative approach to personal finance that intersects behavioral science and proven easy-to-implement strategies that consider the true plight of real, everyday Americans. As incoming Co-Directors, Amelia and I are excited about the continued ground-breaking projects that will drastically and positively influence how Americans – especially the most financially vulnerable among us – take action toward becoming more financially stable.”

America Saves will also leverage the virtual livestream to announce three major initiatives, bringing one of its most important core values – that low- and moderate-income earners need more than financial literacy to have financial stability – to life. Those initiatives include Spanish language support, an emergency savings boost, and a critical research project.
