The biggest shopping days of the year are here - but don’t let the deals derail your holiday budget! Black Friday and Cyber Monday are full of tempting sales, but overspending now can lead to holiday debt that lasts long after the decorations come down.
Challenge Yourself: Shop Intentionally
This year, make a commitment to stick to your holiday spending plan. Treat your budget like a gift to yourself - protect it, follow it, and shop with purpose.
Tips for Sticking with the Plan
- Know Your Spending Limit Before You Browse: Review your Holiday Spending and Savings Plan and decide exactly how much you can spend on gifts, meals, and other holiday expenses.
- Make a List and Check It Twice: Identify the people you’re buying for and the items you actually need. Avoid impulse buys, even if the deal seems too good to pass up.
- Prioritize Deals that Fit Your Plan: Only purchase items you had already planned for. If a deal is tempting but outside your budget, skip it.
- Use Cash or Debit If Possible: Paying with cash or debit helps you stay grounded in what you actually have to spend and prevents credit card balances from piling up. Be cautious of “Buy Now, Pay Later” They can make purchases feel manageable in the moment, but often lead to overspending or surprise payments down the road. Keeping your spending tangible helps you stay in control and focused on your financial goals.
- Compare Prices and Timing: Sometimes the early bird deal isn’t the best deal. Take a moment to compare prices online or wait for a sale on something you truly planned to buy.
- Think Experiences or Homemade Gifts: If funds are tight, consider gifting experiences, DIY crafts, or personal coupons. They can be more meaningful than anything you find on sale.
Make It a Holiday Savings Challenge
