#ASW17 Savings Focus: Save for Retirement

We’re officially three days in to America Saves Week 2017. If saving for retirement isn't among your savings goals, it's about time to start. The earlier savers contribute to their retirement savings accounts, the more they will earn over time from compound interest.

Saving now for retirement will ensure you have enough money to have a comfortable standard of living when you stop working or reduce the amount of hours you work. Participate in a work-related retirement program, open up an Individual Retirement Account (or IRA). Already saving for retirement? Increase the amount you save toward retirement by 1 percent in 2017.

Participant Spotlight

  • Prudential Retirement is encouraging American workers to save more money while balancing multiple financial priorities. “Many Americans are living with some degree of financial stress, whether its related to long-term financial goals like saving for retirement or such financial priorities as managing current and unexpected expenses,” said Christine Marcks, president of Prudential Retirement. You can also find Prudential on Twitter, sharing the savings message and joining the Washington Post's Michelle Singletary this coming Thursday for a live discussion all about retirement.
  • Fidelity Retirement has created an America Saves Week toolkit, leveraging the opportunity to encourage individuals to save money and builds upon it to help employers (i.e. Plan Sponsors) communicate the message to their employees. The goal of the toolkit is to encourage employees to increase their contributions by 1% more to better prepare for retirement.

Organizations like yours are sharing their activities and results with America Saves throughout the week. Find out more on what others have done for America Saves Week at http://americasavesweek.org/what-others-have-done.
