Calling all savers: Here’s what America Saves Week has to offer you!

It’s that time of year again! America Saves Week 2018 kicks off next Monday, February 26 and goes through Saturday, March 3.

America Saves Week is coordinated by America Saves and the American Savings Education Council. Started in 2007, the week provides savers the opportunity to assess their saving status and either start saving or add to your accounts. So, how can you as a saver prepare yourself to take advantage of the opportunities during America Saves Week?

1. Take the America Saves Pledge

Set a goal and make a plan to save. Savers with a plan are twice as likely to save successfully! Already taken the pledge?  America Saves encourages you to recommit to your savings goal and re-pledge today. Or are you a military service member or a family member? Take the Military Saves Pledge

Starting today, there’s even more incentive to take the Pledge because the #ImSavingForSweepstakes runs now until April 6, 2018. All you have to do to enter to win is take the pledge or repledge and you could win $500! And, as a bonus, you can boost your entry by sharing your savings goal on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter and use the #ImSavingForSweepstakes hashtag for your chance to win $750. See the Official Rules here.

So, what are you waiting for? Pledge to save money, reduce debt, and build wealth today!

2. Assess your savings progress

Like your health, you should assess your savings annually to make sure you are saving for all the right things. Check up on previously made savings goals to see how much progress you’ve made. If you’re ahead of schedule, perhaps you can start saving for something else. If you’re behind schedule, it might be a good idea to review your budget to see where you can save some extra money.

3. Go through our Saver Checklist

This checklist is made up of characteristics of successful savers, which includes debt management. It can serve as a useful starting point for evaluating your savings preparedness. Identify areas of improvement, then check out our resource library of materials from our partners for great tips and strategies.

Now that you’re ready to take advantage of the savings opportunities that the Week provides, be sure to check out all of the great events and activities. Happy saving!

Saving With My Boys

Written by | September 2, 2019

When Kelly was a kid, she loved the picture book A Chair for My Mother by Vera B. Williams. In the story, a little girl lives in an apartment with her mother and grandmother. The little girl’s mother is a waitress and sole provider for their family. Together the family saves money by putting their change in a giant jar every day. They are saving for a big cushy chair for the little girl’s hard-working mother. Together with patience and diligence, they buy the mother a very comfy chair.

Budget like Nohemi

Written by Guest Blogger | April 19, 2019

Nohemi found out about America Saves a few years ago as an undergraduate at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She remembers attending a University of Illinois Saves event where she decorated a piggy bank and took the Pledge, but college life made her put the thought of saving at the back of her mind. Those thrifty thoughts resurfaced when she graduated with a degree in public health.
