AMERICA SAVES, ALONG WITH ITS 2,700+ PARTNERING ORGANIZATIONS, PREPARES TO REACH MILLIONS OF AMERICAN SAVERS DURING ITS ANNUAL AMERICA SAVES WEEK
Marking 15 Years in Operation, America Saves Week 2022 Runs from February 21-25 with Education Focused on Financial Resilience

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) February 17, 2022 — America Saves, a non-profit organization and initiative of the Consumer Federation of America (CFA), is preparing for 15th Annual America Saves Week where it helps individuals and communities throughout the United States do a “check-in” on their finances and saving behaviors.

“I'm proud to lead an organization that's committed to helping all people, including those who are underserved and most vulnerable, become more financially confident through building better savings habits or learning about community resources that can help them get back on their feet,” said Kia McCallister-Young, the Co-Director of America Saves. “That's truly what this week, and the ongoing work that we do, is all about. As someone who is in the exact spot that many individuals find themselves in — a divorced single mom of three kids with many competing financial priorities — I relish this necessary occasion to sit down and have a financial check-in, get a clear view of finances, and recommit to my savings goals.”

Thanks to the support of more than 2,600 partnering organizations like the FDIC, National Credit Union Association, the Social Security Administration, many state and local governments, universities and cooperative extensions, nonprofits, and more, America Saves Week is free and open to the public. This year, America Saves Week celebrates 15 years in operation with the 2022 iteration taking place from February 21 - February 25.

Each day of the week will focus on a different aspect of the week’s overall theme of building financial resilience, brought to life through resources, town halls and more. The week’s schedule includes:

  • Save Automatically - Monday, February 21, 2022

  • Save for the Unexpected - Tuesday, February 22, 2022

  • Save to Retire - Wednesday, February 23, 2022

  • Save by Reducing Debt - Thursday, February 24, 2022

  • Save as a Family - Friday, February 25, 2022

“Financial wellness is a highly personal journey that begins with healthy savings habits – which is why Bank of America is a proud partner and supporter of the annual America Saves Week and pledge,” said Mary Hines Droesch, head of Consumer and Small Business Products at Bank of America. “Learning how to save is a lifelong skill that empowers Americans to prioritize a secure financial future.”

In addition to serving as a call to action for everyday Americans to get a clear view of their finances and take action toward saving and reducing debt, America Saves Week also encourages Americans to take the America Saves pledge. The pledge is a framework that allows savers to set a goal and make a plan to achieve better financial stability, extending support beyond the week’s activities.

"At the forefront of the mission of The Consumer Federation of America is to protect and advocate for individuals so that they are treated fairly in the marketplace,” said Jack Gillis, Executive Director of CFA. “Financial stability and resilience are critical components of every household’s well-being. Taking a moment to step back and consider where we are and where we want to be when it comes to finances is something that everyone can do if they have the right tools. CFA is proud to not only participate in America Saves Week, but to be able to bridge our advocacy and policy work with actionable tips, simple strategies, and resources to help everyday Americans through the America Saves initiative."

America Saves and its partners are anticipating another year of great impact following 2021’s findings that saw participants depositing $158,592,265 into new and existing savings accounts in a 1-week timeframe. In addition, 300,192 individuals reported either opening new savings accounts or depositing into an existing savings account.
