AMERICA SAVES AWARDS 15 FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS FOR IMPACT MADE IN INCREASING SAVINGS HABITS AMONG LOCAL AND NATIONAL COMMUNITIES

The Designation of Savings Excellence (DOSE) Award Honors Significant Efforts Made by Banks and Credit Unions During America Saves Week

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) June 6, 2023America Saves announced today the winners of its annual Designation of Savings Excellence (DOSE) Award, the only national award focused on recognizing financial institutions for their work in helping Americans improve financial stability.

America Saves considered all financial institutions that participated in America Saves Week for the award, paying special attention to the number of customers each institution reported opening new saving accounts and the total amount of money deposited into new and existing saving accounts.

“America Saves has the distinct honor of working with financial institutions that actually care about their customers and members,” said Kia McCallister-Young, Director of America Saves. “That has always been a stand-out point to me, that the organizations that participate in America Saves Week go the extra mile; there’s no requirement to be a part of this campaign, organizations participate because they WANT to be. They believe in the message of helping their employees, constituents, and community be more financially confident. We’re thrilled to be able to honor these banks and credit unions and highlight their hard work.”

In addition to the DOSE awards, America Saves also introduced a Community Impact Award this year, recognizing organizations that used the America Saves Pledge to encourage savings goals for their community. Winners were determined based on the total number of pledges taken by their audience members and three organizations are being honored, including Synchrony, Okaloosa Saves and A New Leaf.

“We are committed to supporting our communities and employees with financial education that empowers stability and confidence,” said Samantha Melting, SVP, Head of Consumer Bank at Synchrony. “America Saves has been a valuable partner in promoting the importance of financial wellness by providing practical, simple steps toward saving money, paying down debt, and achieving short- and long-term financial goals.”

Thanks to concentrated efforts from the award winners and the 3,900+ additional organizations who participated in the 2023 efforts to build financial confidence in local and national communities throughout the United States, America Saves saw funds of $788,712,651 deposited into new and existing savings and wealth-building accounts. In addition, 181,000 individuals reported taking financial steps like opening a savings account, automating their savings and increasing their savings amount during the week.

In 2024, America Saves plans to move America Saves Week from February to April to coincide with National Financial Capability Month. For updates and information on next year’s events, visit americasavesweek.org.
