No-Spend Weekend Challenge #2: Clear It Out + Cash In
Meet Ed from Pottsville, Pennsylvania, one of our inspiring savers who took part in our No-Spend Weekend Challenge and walked away with more than just extra space.
Meet Ed from Pottsville, Pennsylvania, one of our inspiring savers who took part in our No-Spend Weekend Challenge and walked away with more than just extra space. Ed turned clutter into cash by hosting a yard sale and made an impressive $306 in just one weekend!
Ed was prepared and had a game plan and offered these tips:
Tip #1: Prepare Ahead of Time
Ed made sure to plan ahead by organizing items, setting prices, and recognizing that early birds (especially collectors) tend to arrive before the official start time. He advises being flexible with your prices and staying ready for early visitors.
Tip #2: Keep Your Cash Secure
Ed recommends having someone keep an eye on your cash box or, better yet, using an apron with deep pockets to keep your money close and safe.
And why does Ed take on challenges like this?
“I enjoy saving and making money, and I enjoy a challenge!”
We love that energy. Whether you're cleaning out your garage or just want to add a little extra to your savings fund, Ed reminds us that small actions (like a well-timed yard sale) can turn into big wins.
Way to go, Ed! Thanks for showing us that saving can be fun, rewarding, and full of creative opportunities.

Put 20 Percent Away
By Melissa
“I am a single mother, and I make ends meet for me and my daughter, but I wanted to put money away for my daughter for a college fund. So I started saving 20 percent of my paycheck every month to put it away in a savings account with a high Annual Percentage Yield (APY). By the time my daughter is 18, I will have saved nearly $90,000.”
