AMERICA SAVES HONORS 20 ORGANIZATIONS FOR SIGNIFICANT EFFORTS TO PROMOTE SAVINGS DURING AMERICA SAVES WEEK
The Annual Savings Champion Award Is Presented to Organizations With the Greatest Impact Reported During the Week-Long Celebration
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) June 8, 2023 — America Saves announced today the winners of its Savings Champions Award, an annual award presented to organizations that contributed significantly to America Saves Week by actively and effectively promoting savings strategies to their own audiences and beyond. The industry-respected award honors organizations outside financial institutions such as nonprofit organizations, employers, cooperative extensions, schools, universities, and more.
“It is an honor to shine a spotlight on these organizations that are committed to helping others gain financial confidence,” said Kia McCallister-Young, Director of America Saves. "As an organization, we know that an informed saver is an empowered saver and an empowered saver will make the best financial decisions for themselves. We honor these Savings Champions because, though they all work in different areas, they each have the belief that no matter a person’s current financial situation, we can always meet them where they are and support them on their journey to achieve their financial goals. We appreciate that these Saving Champions have joined us in ensuring greater access to financial education so that more people are empowered to create positive saving habits."
America Saves Week is a time-honored, national event bringing together thousands of organizations across multiple sectors to transform the lives of Americans by encouraging them to save successfully. Alongside the Savings Champions, more than 3,900 organizations participated in 2023 under the theme of building financial confidence in local and national communities throughout the United States.
The collective effort culminated in reaching nearly nine million individuals during the week-long celebration. Participating financial institutions report that individuals deposited $788,712,651 into new or existing savings accounts during the week. Many participants also took the America Saves Pledge, a digital tool that guides Savers through setting a savings goal and making a simple plan to reach that goal, with 25.64% choosing to save for general savings, 25.4% choosing an emergency fund, and 15.73% choosing to save for a vacation or special event.
