AMERICA SAVES NAMES 34 ORGANIZATIONS SAVINGS CHAMPIONS FOR EXTRAORDINARY SERVICE DURING AMERICA SAVES WEEK

The America Saves Savings Champion Award Recognizes Organizations That Made the Greatest Financial Impact on Their Communities During the Annual America Saves Week Celebration.

(WASHINGTON, D.C) April 21, 2022 — America Saves, a nonprofit initiative of the Consumer Federation of America has named 34 organizations as its recipients of the 2022 America Saves Savings Champion Award. This an annual, industry-respected award recognizes organizations that effectively and actively promoted saving strategies during America Saves Week.

“We’re at a crucial time in our country where it’s getting more difficult to meet your daily basic needs, especially for low-to-moderate income earners,” said Kia McCallister-Young, Director of America Saves. “With inflation and the housing crisis, the time is now to prioritize building financial confidence and increasing financial stability for everyone. There is no one-sized approach to this, as every one’s financial situation is unique. That’s why it’s so important to have trusted resources and a coalition of organizations who are committed to supporting, engaging, and encouraging everyday Americans to take control of their financial well-being. We are proud to shine a spotlight on the incredible work the 2022 America Saves Savings Champions are doing to help build financial stability in both their communities and on the national level.”

The 34 honorees were among 3,100 participating organizations in America Saves Week, which took place February 21 - 25, 2022. The annual campaign encourages individuals to do a financial wellness check-in, set goals, and take action toward improving their financial stability. Upholding the 2022 theme of “Building Financial Resilience,” the Savings Champions worked directly with individuals and employees and amplified a savings message that encouraged them to open savings accounts and set up automatic savings, as well as set financial goals with a plan to achieve them.

“In the United States, a relationship with an insured financial institution is a stepping stone to households’ full participation in the economy. Establishing a banking relationship and setting financial goals are critical steps toward financial well-being,” said FDIC Acting Chairman, Martin J. Gruenberg.

The actions and outreach demonstrated by the Savings Champions substantially contributed to the overall economic impact of America Saves Week. Nearly 415,000 individuals set up a new savings account or deposited into an existing savings account, depositing a total of $1,134,122,355.56 during the one-week timeframe. Additionally, just over 200,000 individuals either set up automatic savings or increased the amount they save automatically.

“At the Kroger Family of Companies, we strive to provide resources that support our associates’ overall well-being, including ways to improve their physical, mental and financial health,” said Tim Massa, Kroger’s senior vice president and chief people officer. “Through our partnership with America Saves, we’re able to provide education and resources that help them feed their futures and achieve their goals, whether that means setting money aside for an unexpected emergency or simply to retire comfortably.”

In addition to the Saving Champions,  America Saves Week 2022. saw a variety of organizations participate in the campaign, including financial institutions, government agencies, local government, nonprofit organizations, academia, and more.
